Yanbaru National Park is a subtropical virgin forest area that stretches across the northern part of Okinawa's main island (Kunigami, Ogimi, and Higashi villages), and was designated a national park in 2016 and a World Natural Heritage site in 2021.
Yanbaru“ means ”mountainous area" and is rich in nature, with precious subtropical evergreen forests and endemic species such as the Yanbaru rail.
It is gaining popularity as a representative nature experience-type tourist spot in northern Okinawa, where trekking, bird watching, eco-tours, and other activities can be enjoyed.
